Opera's MiniPay launches Visa debit card for stablecoin spending
MiniPay launched a Visa debit card in selected markets across Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Europe that lets users spend stablecoins at merchants, which receive local currency through Visa’s network. The card runs on Gnosis Pay infrastructure and draws directly from MiniPay wallets; it can also be added to Apple Pay and Google Pay. Some eligible users will earn cashback in USDt, USDC, and Tether Gold. MiniPay, owned by Opera and built on Celo, says it now has over 16 million activated wallets in 65 countries, with strong adoption in emerging markets. The launch reflects broader stablecoin momentum in these regions, where stablecoins are increasingly used for payments, remittances, and business transactions. Global stablecoin supply has also expanded to about $315 billion, up from roughly $250 billion a year ago.
