Polygon Sets September Date for Migration to POL Token from MATIC

Summary

Polygon Labs, the developer behind the layer-2 network Polygon, will perform a technical upgrade to replace its MATIC token with a new POL token starting on September 4. This change is part of Polygon's planned revamp outlined in its "Polygon 2.0" roadmap last year. The POL token will become the main token for all Polygon networks and will be the native gas and staking token for Polygon's main proof-of-stake chain. In later stages, POL will also secure other blockchains in Polygon's wider network, including the AggLayer. MATIC holders on the Polygon PoS chain will not need to take any action for this upgrade, while those using MATIC on other platforms will need to follow specific steps. Prior to the live launch, Polygon will test the token upgrade on July 17 in a test network environment.
