Polymarket Is Huge Success for Polygon Blockchain – Everywhere But the Bottom Line
Polymarket, a decentralized predictions market on the Polygon PoS blockchain, has gained significant popularity, particularly for betting on the U.S. presidential election, with nearly $2.4 billion wagered on candidates. Despite this success, Polygon's native POL token has dropped 65% this year, and Polymarket has generated only about $27,000 in transaction fees for Polygon in 2024. The low fees are attributed to the cheap transaction costs on Polygon PoS, averaging $0.007. Polymarket accounts for 5.2% of transactions on the network, but its transaction volume is lower than high-intensity applications like decentralized exchanges. Polygon Labs CEO Marc Boiron emphasizes that Polymarket's value lies in the attention it brings to the ecosystem rather than high fee generation. The success of Polymarket is seen as a potential catalyst for broader engagement with Polygon's offerings.
