RTFKT’s CloneX avatars reappear after issue blacks out NFTs
More than 19,800 CloneX digital avatars by RTFKT Studios were temporarily blacked out by Cloudflare for violating terms of service. RTFKT's head of tech, Samuel Cardillo, denied missed payments, attributing the issue to changes in their Cloudflare setup. Speculation arose that RTFKT may have chosen an inadequate plan for high-traffic image serving. Most CloneX NFTs have since reappeared after Cloudflare resolved the issue, but the incident caused outrage among holders, including one who spent $1.25 million on a CloneX NFT. Cardillo is seeking a decentralized solution with ArDrive to prevent future downtime, planning to move CloneX to Arweave. RTFKT has been operating with limited personnel since its closure in January, with Cardillo stating he is managing all operations alone. The firm confirmed its closure but claimed it would evolve into an "artifact of cultural revolution." Several NFT marketplaces, including DraftKings and GameStop, have also shut down recently due to declining trading volumes.
