SEC Meets Blockchain Leaders on Tokenized Securities

Summary

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) engaged with industry representatives to discuss a token standard for compliant issuance and transfer of tokenized securities. The SEC’s Crypto Task Force met with organizations aligned with Ethereum, including the ERC-3643 Association and Chainlink Labs, to explore how standards like ERC-3643 and compliance frameworks like Chainlink’s Automated Compliance Engine (ACE) can integrate blockchain technology with regulatory requirements. ERC-3643 aims to establish compliant capital markets on Ethereum. The SEC demonstrated a more welcoming attitude towards industry-led standards compared to previous years. Proposals were presented on identity, compliance, registry, and control for tokenized securities. SEC Chair Paul Atkins indicated potential changes to promote tokenization, including an innovation exemption to support new trading methods.
