SEC task force met with Trump-supporting firms to discuss crypto regulation
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) crypto task force, led by Hester Peirce, is engaging with digital asset companies to explore regulatory changes. A meeting on April 24 involved Ondo Finance and law firm Davis Polk and Wardwell, focusing on the issuance and sale of wrapped, tokenized US securities. Ondo Finance has ties to Donald Trump, having donated $1 million to his inauguration fund. The discussion included registration requirements for tokenized securities and potential regulatory sandboxes. Following the appointment of Paul Atkins as SEC chair on April 21, the task force continues outreach to the industry. A roundtable event on April 25 will address custody issues with participation from firms like Kraken and WisdomTree. The SEC plans to pursue cases involving fraudulent activity but has ceased investigations against several firms, including Ripple and Coinbase, which have connections to Trump’s campaign.
