SlowMist Warns Of 5 ‘Insidious’ Crypto Scams From Q2
Crypto users experienced a surge in psychologically manipulative attacks in Q2, as reported by SlowMist. Attackers employed sophisticated scams, including fake browser extensions, tampered hardware wallets, and social engineering tactics. Notably, malicious browser extensions, such as the “Osiris” Chrome extension, disguised as security tools, intercepted legitimate downloads and replaced them with malware. Users were also targeted with compromised cold wallets, often under false pretenses like lottery wins, leading to significant financial losses. Social engineering attacks exploited urgency, with phishing websites mimicking trusted services to capture private keys. Other tactics included exploiting Ethereum's EIP-7702 upgrade and targeting WeChat accounts to scam contacts. SlowMist reported recovering approximately $12 million from victims during this period.
