Sui Launches Gas-Free Stablecoin Transfers At Protocol Level
Sui has introduced gas-free stablecoin transfers, letting users send supported stablecoins without holding SUI for fees. The goal is to remove a major crypto payment friction point: users often get stuck if they own stablecoins but not the chain’s native token needed for gas. The feature is aimed at making stablecoin transfers feel more like normal payments. Supported assets include USDC, USDsui, suiUSDe, AUSD, FDUSD, USDB, and USDY. For developers and apps, it could simplify consumer payment flows by hiding gas complexity from end users. The launch comes amid growing competition in stablecoin payments from Ethereum, TRON, Solana, and Base. Its success will depend on real adoption, wallet and app integration, liquidity, and whether the sponsored fee model is economically sustainable at scale.
