Sui network temporarily stalls again after Thursday's outage
Sui experienced another mainnet outage on Friday, with block production stalling for over three hours before resuming. The last block before the disruption was produced around 11:51 UTC, and normal activity returned around 3:30 UTC. Sui said the halt was linked to the 1.72 release, which added address balances and gas-charging logic; a temporary fix from Thursday had only a low probability of causing issues, and a longer-term fix has now been adopted by most validators. The outage followed a nearly six-hour disruption on Thursday caused by a crash bug in gas-charging logic. Sui also suffered a major six-hour network outage in January due to a consensus bug. These incidents highlight how complex L1 blockchains can fail at multiple layers, including execution and validator consensus.
