Tether to Open Source Bitcoin Mining Operations by Q4 2025
Tether plans to open-source its Bitcoin mining software, allowing new miners to enter the market without relying on costly third-party vendors. The Bitcoin Mining OS (MOS) is designed to be scalable and modular, featuring a peer-to-peer architecture. It will support existing mining infrastructure and is expected to launch by Q4 2025. This initiative aims to enhance decentralization in the Bitcoin ecosystem, following Tether's partnership with the Ocean mining pool to decentralize block building. Large Bitcoin miners are diversifying strategies to remain competitive post-halving. Some have built significant Bitcoin treasuries, while others, like Hive Digital, are generating more revenue from AI workloads than from crypto mining. Conversely, companies like Cango have focused solely on Bitcoin mining after divesting less competitive operations, generating over $100 million in Bitcoin within two months.
