Uniswap Developer Unveils Own Layer-2 Network, Unichain, Built on Optimism Tech
Uniswap, the largest decentralized crypto exchange, plans to launch Unichain, a layer-2 blockchain on Ethereum, aimed at enhancing transaction speed and reducing costs. The private test network went live recently, developed by Uniswap Labs using technology from Optimism's OP Stack. Unichain will be part of the Superchain, which includes other networks like Coinbase's Base. CEO Hayden Adams highlighted the need for instant transactions and argued that existing infrastructure lacks sufficient use cases. Unique features of Unichain include a trusted execution environment (TEE) for faster block building (200-250 milliseconds) and a community validation network to enhance decentralization. The TEE aims to improve transaction transparency and reduce maximal extractable value (MEV) risks. The community validation network is expected to launch in 2025, allowing UNI staking for block verification.
