US accounts for over 40% of global Bitcoin hashrate: Report

Summary

The United States represented over 40% of the Bitcoin network's global hashrate by the end of 2024, with Foundry USA and MARA Pool contributing over 38.5% of all mined blocks. Foundry USA's hashrate increased from 157 EH/s to approximately 280 EH/s, making it the largest mining pool at 36.5% of the total hashrate. MARA Pool commands about 32 EH/s, or 4.35% of the total. Despite US gains, Chinese mining pools still dominate, controlling 55% of the global hashrate, aided by VPNs and peer-to-peer apps to bypass regulations. The centralization of mining power has raised concerns among industry leaders, emphasizing that no single country should dominate Bitcoin's hashrate to maintain decentralization and mitigate supply chain risks.
