U.S. House tax committee weighs crypto bills, including relief for small transactions
Seven crypto tax bills are circulating ahead of a June 9 House Ways and Means hearing. The drafts address narrow issues in digital asset taxation, including exemptions for small “de minimis” transactions, stablecoin activity and network fees; rules for crypto mined or staked assets; alignment of digital assets with securities tax treatment; application of wash sale rules; and removal of appraisal requirements for crypto charitable donations. A key goal is reducing double taxation on mining and staking income. The Digital Chamber says it supports the hearing as a chance to refine the proposals and push bipartisan tax reform. Crypto tax policy is seen as the industry’s next major federal priority after market structure legislation, though earlier Senate-led efforts by Cynthia Lummis did not gain traction.
