US law enforcement group moves to ‘neutral’ position on CLARITY Act
The National Sheriffs’ Association has shifted from opposing to taking a neutral stance on the CLARITY Act, a crypto market structure bill set for a Senate vote later this month. In a letter to Senate leaders, the group said Congress and the administration have done substantial work on the legal, regulatory, and enforcement issues, and that it should now let the legislative process continue to create a clear framework. The NSA had previously objected to provisions it said could weaken law enforcement’s ability to trace crypto transactions, especially changes affecting crypto mixers. The bill passed the House in July 2025 and has since faced Senate hurdles and broader concerns over stablecoin rewards, tokenized equities, and possible conflicts of interest. Senate leaders have scheduled a cloture vote for Sept. 15 after the chamber returns.
