USDC positions to be native stablecoin on Sony Soneium blockchain

Summary

Ad Circle plans to extend its USDC stablecoin to the Ethereum layer-2 blockchain Soneium, aiming to make bridged USDC a key token for value exchange on the network. This initiative will use Circle’s Bridged USDC Standard, allowing deployment on EVM-compatible blockchains. Soneium, launched in August by Sony Block Solutions Labs, is designed for entertainment, gaming, and finance. Jun Watanabe from Sony emphasized the collaboration's potential to enhance the digital ecosystem. Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire noted that this partnership will boost the adoption of USDC and blockchain technology. Soneium has rapidly grown, partnering with platforms like Chainlink. Circle's USDC, the second-largest stablecoin with a supply of around $35 billion, has seen increased adoption, particularly through the Coinbase-backed Base network, with monthly transfer volumes exceeding $587 billion.
