VC Darling Eclipse Finally Debuts Its Solana-Ethereum Blockchain Hybrid

Summary

Eclipse launched its mainnet blockchain, introducing a layer-2 network that integrates technology from Ethereum and Solana. This network enables faster transactions and lower fees on Ethereum by utilizing the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM). Eclipse allows developers to create decentralized applications (dApps) that can operate more efficiently than those native to Ethereum. The platform facilitates interoperability between dApps on Eclipse and native Solana applications, enhancing liquidity across both ecosystems. The Eclipse mainnet has onboarded over 60 projects, including DeFi platform Orca. Eclipse raised over $50 million from investors but faced controversy, including the ousting of co-founder Neel Somani due to sexual misconduct allegations and undisclosed token allocation issues with Polychain, its largest backer.
