Vitalik Buterin proposes minimalism as key to layer-2 blockchain success
Ethereum proponents suggest that layer-1 networks should transition to become layer-2 solutions on Ethereum. Jason Chaskin from the Ethereum Foundation highlighted Celo’s recent shift as a successful model, noting benefits like reduced inflation and faster block times. Vitalik Buterin emphasized that new layer-2 networks should leverage Ethereum's strengths, such as security and data availability, by minimizing their own complexity and focusing on transaction sequencing and proof generation. This approach aims to enhance trust and efficiency in blockchain operations. The Ethereum Foundation also announced plans to integrate a zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) within a year, allowing validators to verify transactions using ZK-proofs instead of re-executing them.
