Vitalik wants to make Ethereum ‘as simple as Bitcoin’ in 5 years
Vitalik Buterin proposed simplifying Ethereum’s base protocol to enhance efficiency, security, and accessibility, inspired by Bitcoin's minimalist design. In a blog post, he outlined a vision for restructuring Ethereum’s architecture, emphasizing that simplicity is crucial for resilience and scalability. Recent upgrades have increased robustness, but technical complexity has led to bloated development cycles and higher costs. Key proposals include a “3-slot finality” model for the consensus layer to eliminate complex components, and a shift from the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) to a simpler, ZK-friendly virtual machine like RISC-V for improved performance. Buterin also called for protocol-wide standardization to reduce redundancy and streamline infrastructure. His proposals aim to address Ethereum's declining market share against competing blockchains.
