WazirX, Liminal Custody Blame Each Other as $230M Crypto Exploit Leaves Customers Stranded
WazirX and Liminal Custody are blaming each other for a $230 million exploit. WazirX, an Indian crypto exchange, claims the exploit was related to a multisig wallet using Liminal's digital asset custody service, due to a discrepancy between the data displayed on Liminal's interface and the actual transaction contents. Liminal maintains that its infrastructure was not breached and all wallets remain safe. The exploit involved three victims' machines injecting malicious payloads into a transaction, targeting a specific Gnosis Smart Contract Multi-Sig wallet. WazirX has filed a police report and engaged with the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team. The stolen funds account for over 45% of its $500 million holdings. Crypto security firm Elliptic suggests North Korean hackers may be behind the exploit.
