What happens when ChatGPT becomes the front door to crypto
Crypto onboarding is shifting from exchanges and wallets toward AI chatbots. Instead of learning addresses, seed phrases, gas fees, and multiple apps, users may soon ask an assistant how to buy, send, or use crypto, then complete the task in the same conversation. Integrations like MoonPay in ChatGPT and Coinbase Base tools using MCP point to this future. MCP is the key bridge: it lets AI connect to wallets, blockchain apps, and other services so it can do more than answer questions. This could make crypto simpler, faster, and less intimidating for beginners, while hiding much of the underlying complexity. The tradeoff is trust and security. Users may rely too much on AI, and mistakes in addresses or transaction details can be costly because blockchain transfers are usually irreversible. New risks also include prompt injection, malicious plugins, and scammy AI-generated interactions. AI may become the main interface for crypto, while exchanges fade into the background.
