Whistleblower Sues Elon Musk's xAI, Claiming He Was Fired After Raising Grok Safety Concerns
Former xAI engineer Devin Kim sued xAI and SpaceX in California, alleging he was fired after repeatedly warning leaders that Grok lacked adequate safeguards against misinformation, bias, and dangerous outputs, including content that could aid bioterrorism. The complaint says he urged stronger testing after seeing risks of racial and political bias, and claims his firing was retaliation that violated California labor and public policy laws. Kim’s lawyers point to Grok controversies, including an antisemitic “MechaHitler” incident and reports of sexual deepfake generation, as evidence his concerns were valid. The suit seeks restored equity, damages, fees, and other relief. SpaceX is named as a defendant amid closer ties among Musk’s companies and planned corporate restructuring.
