Zcash co-founder calls to stop funding ‘over $125M’ grants program

Summary

Zcash co-founder Sean Bowe proposed redirecting the Zcash Community Grants program’s 8% share of block subsidies to the network sustainability reserve until the current funding period ends in 2028. Existing grant funds would remain available. Bowe said ZCG already has more than $125 million in funding and was not designed to manage that scale. Its dashboard showed 91,453 ZEC, $8.8 million in cash and $2.4 million in outstanding commitments; its ZEC was worth about $111 million. The proposal follows earlier concerns that a large developer fund could become politicized.
