Aave mulls Polygon exit over risky stablecoin proposal
The Aave community is considering a proposal to withdraw from Polygon’s Proof-of-Stake chain due to risks associated with Polygon's plans to rehypothecate stablecoin reserves. Marc Zeller, founder of Aave Chan, suggested adjusting risk parameters for Aave's V2 and V3 deployments on Ethereum and potentially exiting Polygon entirely to safeguard against vulnerabilities linked to bridged stablecoins. Aave, the largest dApp on Polygon, represents $468 million, about 40% of the network's total value locked. The withdrawal would affect only 2% of Aave’s total value locked and 1.5% of its fee revenue. Concerns arose from a controversial yield generation proposal on Polygon that could risk significant losses, drawing comparisons to past security breaches. The crypto community largely supports Aave's cautious stance, emphasizing the risks of bridges and the need for responsible governance in DeFi.
