Amazon Won't Release Sam Altman Film 'Artificial' Following $50 Billion OpenAI Investment
Amazon has pulled **Artificial**, a nearly completed film about Sam Altman’s brief 2023 ouster as OpenAI CEO, from its release plans and is seeking a new distributor. Mike Hopkins, who runs Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, informed director Luca Guadagnino and the producers that Amazon would not move forward. The film, written by Simon Rich, stars Andrew Garfield as Altman and Yura Borisov as OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever, and had been compared to *The Social Network*. Reports said early versions portrayed Altman negatively, and Amazon decided the finished cut had become much darker than originally intended. The move comes shortly after Amazon committed $50 billion to OpenAI, while Altman has also built ties with the Trump administration. Creative Artists Agency is now shopping the film to other studios.
