Augustus Raises $180 Million to Build a Stablecoin-Ready 'Global Dollar Bank'

Summary

Augustus raised $180 million in a Series B led by Tiger Global, valuing the startup at $1 billion and bringing total funding to $210 million. It is building a federally chartered clearing bank focused on stablecoins and programmable money, aimed at modernizing correspondent banking and cross-border payments. Instead of issuing its own stablecoin, it offers API-first infrastructure for banks and fintechs to move money across traditional rails and blockchain networks, with support for operating/FBO accounts and settlement via Swift, ACH, SEPA, and stablecoins. The company is also developing its own core banking system, Marble, which it says improves settlement speed and 24/7 availability. Augustus received conditional approval for a U.S. national bank charter in May and already counts Kraken among its customers. The new capital will fund expansion in Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, where dollar access is limited.
