Binance Files for MiCA License in Greece Ahead of July 1 EU Deadline
Binance has applied for a Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) license in Greece ahead of a July 1 EU deadline, which requires crypto-asset service providers to be licensed to continue operating in the EU. Binance is working with Greece’s financial regulator, HCMC, after establishing its Greek holding company, Binary Greece, in December, signaling a long-term presence. The company chose Greece due to its strong regulatory environment and economic growth prospects. No MiCA licenses have yet been awarded in Greece, but Binance claims active engagement with the HCMC. MiCA licensing is necessary to avoid service suspension; other firms like Coinbase, Kraken, and eToro have already received approval. France’s regulator has noted that many firms still lack MiCA licenses, and the European Commission seeks centralized EU oversight of crypto-asset providers, a move Malta opposes. Binance supports MiCA, citing its benefits for regulatory clarity, user protection, and responsible innovation.
