Binance Market Dominance Plunges: A Deep Dive Into The 36% Share Drop
Binance's market share in the cryptocurrency sector has declined to 36.6% in September, down from 42.7% at the beginning of the year, marking its lowest level in four years. The exchange's spot market share is at 27%, the lowest since January 2021, while its derivatives trading share is at 40.7%. This decline is linked to ongoing legal issues, particularly in the US, including a $4 billion fine from the DOJ for sanctions violations. Co-founder and former CEO Changpeng Zhao served four months in prison and has since been released. Richard Teng has been appointed as the new CEO to help navigate regulatory challenges. The broader market for centralized exchanges has seen a 17% drop in trading volumes, with competitors gaining market share. Despite these challenges, Binance has surpassed $100 trillion in lifetime trading volume, and its native token BNB is currently trading at $545.
