Binance News: Cleared To Operate In Kazakhstan, CZ Banned From Future Management
Binance has received regulatory approval to operate in Kazakhstan, securing a full license from the Astana Financial Services Authority (AFSA) to establish a Digital Asset Trading Facility (DATF). This allows Binance Kazakhstan to launch a virtual assets trading platform, engage in principal investment activities, and provide custody services. Despite this progress, former CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has been permanently banned from overseeing the company following a settlement with US authorities. Current CEO Richard Teng confirmed Zhao's lifetime ban, although he retains shareholder rights. Zhao is prohibited from day-to-day operations but can influence company performance. Legal experts note ambiguity in the settlement regarding Zhao's potential future leadership role. Zhao has expressed no intention of returning to a CEO position, focusing instead on investments in blockchain, AI, and biotechnology. Binance's native token, BNB, is currently trading at $500, reflecting a 2.2% decline in the last 24 hours amid a broader market downturn.
