Binance uncovers more breach points in $6 billion hack
Binance says investigators found additional breach points in a roughly $6 billion theft, beyond a potentially compromised engineer’s laptop, but has not disclosed details. TRM Labs attributed the attack with high confidence to North Korea-linked TraderTraitor, citing preparation and laundering patterns; researchers also found fund flows connecting the theft to earlier Bitget and Phemex hacks. TRM said attackers moved assets across 10 blockchains, using EIP-7702 and pre-signed authorizations on Ethereum. Binance reported no evidence that wallet private keys were leaked, said it froze about $3 billion, and pledged to cover losses through SAFU and corporate funds. It revoked the affected authorization, is rebuilding withdrawal infrastructure, and expected withdrawals to resume within 45 hours of its Oct. 30 update. Binance has not confirmed who was responsible and is working with law enforcement and blockchain investigators.
