Bitcoin, Ethereum price news: MSTR's BTC sale could kickstart ETH outperformance

Summary

Strategy’s small first bitcoin sale since 2022 may matter more for what it signals than for the $2.5 million sold. Standard Chartered’s Geoff Kendrick says the move coincided with ether strongly outperforming bitcoin, with ETH up about 5% relative to BTC since Monday, and he sees that as the start of a broader ETH/BTC outperformance trend. Kendrick expects the ETH/BTC ratio to rise to 0.04 by year-end from about 0.028, implying ETH could beat BTC by more than 40% even if both rise or fall. He keeps a long-term ETH target of $4,000 by end-2026 and $40,000 by 2030. His main argument is structural: bitcoin treasury firms depend on price gains and capital markets, while ether can generate staking yield, currently around 3% annualized. That recurring income could make ETH treasury companies more self-sustaining and eventually close their valuation gap with bitcoin-focused peers.
