Bitcoin Lightning Network A Failure? Ex-Facebook Exec Marcus Speaks Out
There is an ongoing debate regarding the potential and challenges of the Bitcoin Lightning Network (LN). Alexander Leishman, CEO and CTO of River, recently discussed user-experience issues consumers face when using Lightning Network-related transactions - critical for wider adoption. Ex-Facebook executive David Marcus, now CEO of Lightspark, also presented his insight based on a detailed perspective of the LN. Marcus acknowledged the previous complexity and high failure rates of LN for larger transactions, but these issues have since been largely mitigated. He cited the Universal Money Address (UMA) standard, which simplifies exchanging various currencies in real time, as a key development. Marcus acknowledged integral challenges, such as receiving transactions offline and the high costs of processing smaller transactions. However, despite these challenges, Marcus is extremely positive about future success due to increasing amounts of talent being attracted to the project.
