Bitcoin Miner Bitdeer Overtakes MARA, Establishing Hash Rate Lead: JPMorgan
Bitdeer has surpassed Marathon Digital Holdings (MARA) in self-mining hash rate among publicly traded Bitcoin mining companies, reaching 63.2 exahashes per second (EH/s) compared to MARA’s 60.4 EH/s. Bitdeer's rise follows a rapid expansion, adding 8 EH/s in the past month through deployment of its SEALMINER mining rigs. In January, Bitdeer mined 668 Bitcoin, a 430% year-over-year increase. Unlike MARA, which has shifted focus toward AI infrastructure, Bitdeer continues to prioritize both self-mining and customer-hosted mining, managing a total of 78.1 EH/s with 13.0 EH/s allocated to hosted operations. Bitdeer is also exploring data center leasing for potential AI cloud services in the U.S. The company’s Bitcoin holdings decreased to 1,530 BTC (worth $104 million) at the month’s end. While MARA still operates large joint ventures, especially in the Middle East, and has prioritized AI capabilities, its self-mining activity now trails Bitdeer’s.
