Bitcoin’s Quantum Transition Won’t Stop at Bitcoin
Summary
Quantum computing could eventually threaten Bitcoin signatures, but no publicly demonstrated machine can currently attack the network at scale. A transition to quantum-resistant cryptography would require coordinated changes across Bitcoin wallets, exchanges, custodians and tokenized-asset infrastructure. WBTC, with 116,000 tokens representing about $9.5 billion, says it is preparing to migrate custodian deposit addresses and exploring a multi-custodian reserve model. These steps may support custody resilience but do not make WBTC quantum-resistant; security would also depend on future cryptographic upgrades and implementation across connected systems.
