BitTorrent Ushers in Next-Gen Web3 Infrastructure with Strategic Rebrand and Inaugural BTT Burn
BitTorrent says it completed its first BTT buyback-and-burn on October 16, sending about 21.62 trillion tokens, valued at roughly $7.6 million, to a burn address using Q3 2026 decentralized-service revenue. It says all revenue from decentralized services will fund quarterly buybacks and burns, with transaction records published through a new dashboard. The company also released a whitepaper describing an expanded ecosystem: BitTorrent Mainnet for peer-to-peer content distribution, BTTInferGrid for decentralized AI compute, and BTTC for cross-chain interoperability, scaling and settlement. BTT is presented as the shared token for payments, fees, staking, incentives and governance. The announcement frames these changes as a shift toward revenue-backed token deflation and Web3 and AI infrastructure, but offers limited independent evidence for its claims about profitability, investor response or future growth.
