Bitget explores licensed crypto presence in Bhutan
Bitget has signed an agreement with Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority to explore launching a licensed local operation in Bhutan’s emerging digital asset sector. The deal could help Bitget establish a legal presence in Gelephu Mindfulness City and prepare an application for a relevant financial services license. GMC is a $100 billion autonomous economic zone backed partly by Bhutan’s national Bitcoin reserves and aims to attract high-value jobs in finance, tech, and wellness. Bitget said it wants to contribute exchange expertise, infrastructure knowledge, and local talent development as the ecosystem expands. The move follows GMC’s recent appointment of Canadian digital-asset manager 3iQ to manage part of its Bitcoin treasury and support long-term local development.
