Bitget to exit Japan, close remaining positions after Dec. 31
Bitget will stop serving residents of Japan and is tightening account access in stages. New registrations from Japan were halted on Monday, account restrictions begin Nov. 1, and any open positions will be forcibly closed on Dec. 31. Users who think they were wrongly labeled as Japan residents must complete Level 2 verification, including address proof, by Nov. 1 or their accounts will be treated as Japan-based. Further instructions will be sent by email. The move follows repeated warnings from Japanese regulators. Japan’s Financial Services Agency issued notices to Bitget in March 2023 and November 2024 for allegedly offering crypto services without registration, and the Kanto Local Finance Bureau warned a Bitget-linked company in June 2025 over unregistered solicitation of OTC derivatives trading.
