Blur is shutting down its website, so why are NFT collectors cheering?
Summary
Blur will shut its website frontend on Nov. 12, though its onchain marketplace will remain active. Its Blend lending protocol will stop matching new loans; borrowers must repay by the same date or risk default, and Blur says it will provide a withdrawal interface. The shutdown comes amid a broader NFT downturn: September sales totaled $167 million, far below January 2022’s $6 billion peak. Blur’s trading incentives and optional creator royalties helped push the marketplace to the top in 2023 and contributed to lower royalties across the industry. Other NFT platforms have also announced closures or ended NFT services.
