BOB Becomes First Bitcoin Layer-2 Project to Join Optimism's 'Superchain'
Ethereum layer-2 Optimism's "Superchain" has integrated BOB, a Bitcoin-native layer-2 project, marking its first addition from the Bitcoin ecosystem. BOB will receive approximately $870,000 in grants from the Optimism Foundation. BOB is described as a "hybrid layer-2" network that combines Bitcoin with Ethereum compatibility, aiming to bridge these blockchains and position Bitcoin at the center of decentralized finance (DeFi). Optimism's OP Stack framework enables developers to create custom blockchains on its network. Notable projects using OP Stack include Coinbase's Base and Kraken's Ink, with Kraken receiving a grant of 25 million OP tokens valued at about $42.5 million. Optimism's total-value locked (TVL) stands at over $6 billion, significantly lower than Arbitrum's $13 billion, but it supports over 40 rollups with a combined TVL exceeding $18 billion.
