Brazil’s largest energy giant tests Cardano to fix carbon double-counting
Summary
Petrobras, the Cardano Foundation and PUC-Rio developed research applications to track sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) benefits and renewable Diesel R across supply chains. The SAF platform records environmental attributes as CS-SAF tokens on Cardano, enabling transfers and retirement to prevent the same benefit from being claimed twice. Travelers can receive certificates tied to an original fuel certificate, with token metadata aligned to aviation carbon-accounting standards. A separate Diesel R model proposes recording checkpoints from production through use to support Scope 3 reporting. The work remains research and development; disclosed materials provide no figures for commercial adoption, transactions or revenue.
