BTC news: Bitcoin will now stop hiding bugs an AI can find in one prompt
Summary
Bitcoin Core changed its security policy to accelerate fixes for vulnerabilities that AI tools can readily rediscover. Maintainers can now classify such bugs during triage, issue fixes across supported versions as soon as possible, and publish an advisory with some details rather than keeping the flaw embargoed. The faster releases may have less testing time. The change followed a rise in AI-assisted vulnerability reports, including exploited flaws in BTCPay Server and Core Lightning. A volunteer group also reported thousands of findings across 390 Bitcoin projects. No bug has yet been handled under the new policy.
