Bullish Shift For TON: Price Breaks Above $2 Following Telegram CEO’s Gram News
Toncoin rose about 11% on Monday, briefly above $2.30, after Telegram founder Pavel Durov said TON’s native token will be renamed “Gram” over the next three weeks. He said the change is a return to TON’s original white paper and part of “step 4 of 7” in a broader roadmap. The blockchain name will stay TON, and holders, validators, and DeFi apps are not expected to take action; balances should keep working normally, with exchanges and wallets eventually switching to the GRAM ticker. The Gram name carries legal history: Telegram previously raised about $1.7 billion for Gram tokens in 2018, then faced an SEC emergency action in 2019 over an unregistered securities sale, leading to a 2020 settlement requiring $1.2 billion returned to investors and an $18.5 million penalty. TON later cooled to about $2.11, but remains up sharply on the month, though far below its all-time high.
