Cboe, S&P Dow Jones open door for tokenized options under extended licensing deal
Summary
Cboe Global Markets and S&P Dow Jones Indices extended their licensing agreement for 25 years, through 2051, preserving Cboe’s exclusive rights to offer S&P 500 index options. The firms said they may explore tokenized options, but announced no product, timeline or operating details. The possibility reflects broader financial-sector efforts to bring assets and markets onto blockchain rails. Cboe reported a record 970.6 million SPX options contracts traded in 2025. S&P DJI has also licensed the S&P 500 for a blockchain-based index fund and a 24/7 perpetual futures product, while Nasdaq, the NYSE and DTCC are pursuing other tokenization initiatives.
