Chainlink Unveils 'Chainlink Runtime Environment,' Aiming for Better Blockchain Workflows
Chainlink launched the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE) for developers to create custom applications across multiple blockchains during Smartcon at Hong Kong Fintech Week. CRE aims to facilitate the integration of traditional finance (TradFi) into Web3, likened to the historical significance of Cobol and Java Runtime Environment. It offers a flexible, microservices-like framework that reduces development time from months to days or hours, allowing for unified codebases across blockchains. Each Oracle function in CRE is managed by Decentralized Oracle Networks (DONs), enabling adaptable workflows. CRE prioritizes privacy for institutional transactions using advanced cryptographic tools like zero-knowledge proofs and Trusted Execution Environments. It is chain-agnostic, eliminating the need for Chainlink-specific code. A phased rollout of CRE will begin with Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol, with full deployment expected by 2025.
