Charles Schwab Expands Crypto Platform Beyond Bitcoin And Ethereum
Charles Schwab is expanding its crypto offerings beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum to include exposure to Solana, Avalanche, and Chainlink. This matters because Schwab is a major traditional brokerage, so its product choices can make crypto easier to access for investors who prefer familiar, regulated platforms over offshore exchanges or self-custody. The addition suggests demand is broadening beyond BTC and ETH and that these assets are viewed as liquid and established enough for brokerage access. Each token represents a different crypto thesis: Solana for high-throughput smart contracts and DeFi, Avalanche for subnet and tokenization infrastructure, and Chainlink for oracle and cross-chain data services. This is an access expansion, not the same as SEC approval for spot ETFs or a guarantee of direct custody. If major brokerages keep adding altcoins, supported assets could gain liquidity and legitimacy, while unsupported tokens remain more crypto-native.
