King Charles to host AI chiefs amid industry call to slow development
Top AI executives are expected to meet in Scotland at a summit hosted by King Charles III to discuss responsible AI development and how to keep the technology aligned with human control. The gathering, at Dumfries House and overseen by the Ditchley Foundation, is expected to include leaders from Nvidia, OpenAI, Anthropic, IonQ, and Google DeepMind. The summit comes shortly after major AI leaders, including Dario Amodei, Sam Altman, and Elon Musk, urged greater restraint in frontier AI development. Amodei warned that AI is advancing faster than expected, partly due to recursive self-improvement, and suggested AI agent swarms could pose serious internet-scale risks within months. Altman also said the industry needs to slow the pace at the frontier. King Charles has reportedly shown interest in AI’s risks and broader implications.
