Coinbase Brings Tokenized Stocks to Ethereum L2 Base
Coinbase’s Base network says Coinbase-issued tokenized stocks are now live for eligible users outside the U.S. Each token is backed 1:1 by a share held by regulated broker/custodian Alpaca, giving holders a direct claim on the underlying stock rather than a synthetic price track. The first offerings include fractional Apple and Nvidia shares, which can be self-custodied, traded on Aerodrome, used as collateral on Aave, or plugged into liquidity pools, portfolios, indexes, and derivatives. The tokens use Coinbase’s B20 standard to handle dividends and stock splits without disrupting balances or DeFi positions. Availability depends on jurisdiction and identity checks. Base says more Coinbase-issued stocks and other real-world assets will arrive soon, as crypto platforms push traditional equities onto always-on blockchains.
