Coinbase wants Oregon AG case in federal court
Coinbase has requested a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit from Oregon's attorney general, claiming it mirrors a previous SEC lawsuit and should be heard in federal court. Coinbase argues that the lawsuit, filed by Attorney General Dan Rayfield, exceeds his authority and infringes on federal law. Rayfield's lawsuit alleges Coinbase sold unregistered securities, which he claims pose risks to consumers. Coinbase contends that Rayfield's actions are a response to the SEC's decision to drop its case against the exchange earlier this year. Coinbase's chief legal officer stated that the issues raised are fundamentally federal and should be resolved in federal court. Rayfield emphasized the need for state enforcement due to perceived federal inaction on crypto regulation. Several states, including Kentucky, have recently dropped lawsuits against Coinbase.
