Core DAO plans emergency hard fork after validators drew excess rewards
Core DAO is preparing an emergency hard fork after a small number of validators were able to claim more CORE rewards than the protocol intended. Core says the issue has been contained, malicious validators can no longer extract excess rewards, and the upgrade will be forward-only, with no rollback or reversal of confirmed transactions. The problem was limited to reward issuance, and Core said user assets remained safe. The incident prompted several exchanges to restrict CORE transfers. Coinbase paused sends and receives on Core, while Bithumb and Coinone suspended deposits and withdrawals over security concerns. Bitget and LBank also suspended CORE activity, citing wallet maintenance or project requirements. Core has not disclosed how many extra tokens were issued, how long the issue lasted, whether any entered circulation, or what vulnerability allowed it. A technical postmortem is expected.
