Crypto Wallet MetaMask Launches Yield-Paying Money Accounts on Monad

Summary

MetaMask is launching Money Accounts, a self-custody feature that combines stablecoin yield, payments, and trading in one balance. Built on Monad and using MetaMask’s mUSD stablecoin, it lets users opt in to have deposits deployed into DeFi lending protocols such as Morpho at launch, with Aave planned later. Users can fund accounts with crypto or fiat through supported on-ramps, and eligible users in most regions receive access in the MetaMask mobile app. MetaMask says the goal is to create a neo-banking experience while keeping users in control of their funds. The product separates mUSD’s reserve backing from its yield generation: reserves are held by Bridge, while user deposits are routed through vault infrastructure into lending protocols and earnings accrue to balances after fees. The launch reflects growing competition among wallets and exchanges to become users’ main financial interface, and it arrives amid U.S. regulatory debate over whether stablecoin yield products should be allowed.
