DMM Hackers Strike Back, 500 Bitcoins Moved to New Addresses

Summary

A cryptocurrency address linked to the $305 million DMM Bitcoin hack transferred 500 Bitcoin, worth around $30.4 million. The stolen funds are believed to be connected to the 4,502.9 BTC taken from the exchange in May. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT has attributed the attack to the Lazarus Group. The attackers have reportedly split and laundered the stolen Bitcoin, with some funds transferred to the Cambodia-based exchange Huione Guarantee. DMM Bitcoin has implemented measures to prevent further unauthorized outflows. This hack adds to the increasing cryptocurrency thefts in 2024, which had already claimed over $473 million in losses. Stolen funds inflows doubled to $1.58 billion compared to $857 million last year.
